Home Color Expert: HOW IT BEGAN
My love for color, interior design, cooking, gardening, and creating beautiful things began in my early 20’s pouring over Martha Stewart (aka The OG Queen) Living Magazines. This passion was a hobby that helped create a beautiful home for my family. After nearly 30 years working in the medical field, it was time for a change and a chance to tap into my creative side.
We were in the process of selling and buying a home where I spent hours looking at online real estate listings and often found pictures of poorly chosen renovation hard finishes and paint colors that dated a home and would need to be changed. I felt that there was a better way to go about renovating or building a home that would prevent the endless cycle of tearing out the previous owner’s trendy choices that are filling our landfills. When we finally purchased our ‘forever home’ that needed renovations, I was determined to learn more about how to choose timeless finishes and colors that, when completed, would create a beautiful home that matched our lifestyle and aesthetic.
I began training under Maria Killam, renowned international color expert, and learned how to see the undertones in neutrals and colors. I learned the why when it seemed to me that a space didn’t look right, or things didn’t go together and look harmonious. I learned how to immediately call out undertone conflicts and fix them. When surfaces, furnishings and wall colors come together perfectly, it can truly transform a space. Homeowners who struggle with choosing colors and finishes but might not want or can’t afford an interior designer needed another option and that led me here, to Home Hues, a color consulting business.
